Sports expert plays a new role in law firm

Rapidly growing law firm Harding Evans  has appointed a commercial solicitor with sports law expertise to it's team of legal specialists.

The Newport based practice employs 130 staff and has expanded the team with the addition of Philip Avery, an experience solicitor with particular knowledge of sport and sports law.

Phillip joins the firm's commercial department which handles a range of legal services including commercial property, employment law, company and commercial, debt recovery and sports law.

He said: "Contract law has become increasingly complex in the world of sport so there is a greater need to be able to offer specialist support to individual sports people, clubs and others involved. I can advise clients on a range of issues such as contractual terms and conditions, injury compensation and liability matters."

Phillip, with more than 30 years' legal experience, has worked for a number of prominent law films in Cardiff and Bristol.

He has chaired and worked for a variety of sports organisation in a voluntary capacity including chairing the Welsh Table Tennis Association and being a director of the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales. He has also being general manager of the Welsh Sports Association while in 2006 he was a team manager with Team Wales at the Melbourne Commonwealth games.
